Regular Season Round 9: PeKa - HBA-Marsky 107-60

Korisliiga top team - Peli-Karhut (9-0) had no problems winning another game on Sunday. This time they crushed seventh ranked HBA-Marsky (2-6) in Kotka 107-60. The game without a history. Peli-Karhut led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to HBA-Marsky's 36. They outrebounded HBA-Marsky 45-30 including a 35-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Peli-Karhut looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by HBA-Marsky's players. American forward Zykera Rice (185-96, college: Gonzaga) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and naturalized Russian power forward Elena Melto (184-86) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). Four Peli-Karhut players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was international guard Kati Ollilainen (173-3) with 18 points and guard Ebba Pekonen (172-1) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. HBA-Marsky's coach Mirka Dettmann gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Peli-Karhut have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. HBA-Marsky lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with six games lost. Peli-Karhut are looking forward to face Torpan Pojat (#6) in Helsinki in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. HBA-Marsky will play on the road against Catz Lappeenranta and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
