There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Gijon (1-4) won against at home higher ranked Zamorano (4-3) 78-71 on Saturday. They outrebounded Zamorano 41-26 including a 13-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was power forward Marcos Portalez (204-95) who had a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Alejandro Marin (190-88) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Gijon players scored in double figures. American-Italian point guard Anthony Libroia (180-94, college: Adelphi) produced 17 points and 4 assists and Irish forward John Carroll (203-95, college: Hartford) added 9 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Zamorano's coach Saulo Hernandez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Gijon left bottom position moving up to twelfth place in Silver. Loser Zamorano keeps the fifth position with three games lost. Gijon will face higher ranked Ponferrada (#6) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game.
