Regular Season Round 19: Sendai 89ers - Ibaraki R. 85-93

Very important is a home loss of second ranked Sendai 89ers (13-6) against fourth ranked Ibaraki R. (13-6) on Sunday night. Host Sendai 89ers were defeated by Ibaraki R. in a tough game in Sendai 85-93. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Ibaraki R. players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Sendai 89ers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Chehales Tapscott (195-90, college: Portland St.) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Atsunobu Hirao (178-89) contributed with 14 points and 7 assists for the winners. American center Daniel Miller (211-91, college: Georgia Tech) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds and guard Reiju Sasakura (187-97) added 15 points and 4 assists in the effort for Sendai 89ers. Four Ibaraki R. and five Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ibaraki R. keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Sendai 89ers. Ibaraki R. will play against Yamagata (#6) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Sendai 89ers will play against Koshigaya A. (#5) in Tokyo and hope to get back on the winning track.
