There was a minor upset in Sao Paulo where 11th ranked Pato Basquete (3-7) was defeated by thirteenth ranked Pinheiros (3-6) 85-77 on Monday. Forward Jonas Buffat (191-0) stepped up and scored 25 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and the former international Guilherme Teichmann (204-83, college: Tulsa) chipped in 8 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. American guard Isaac Thornton (193-91, college: Fairmont St.) responded with 32 points and forward Paulo Scheuer (203-99) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pato Basquete's coach Dede Barbosa rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the third consecutive win for Pinheiros. They moved-up to eleventh place. Loser Pato Basquete dropped to the twelfth position with seven games lost. Pinheiros will face higher ranked Fortaleza (#7) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pato Basquete will play against Brasilia (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
