Regular Season Round 11: ToPo - Catz 68-73

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when ninth ranked Catz Lappeenranta (3-8) beat 8th ranked Torpan Pojat (3-8) in Helsinki 73-68. It looked good early as Torpan Pojat took a 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Catz Lappeenranta had a 24-11 second period charge getting the lead and Torpan Pojat was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 68-73. Catz Lappeenranta players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was a great evening for guard Tuulia Timo (177-97) who led her team to a victory scoring 25 points and 5 assists. American swingman Mariah King (188-90, college: EIU) helped adding 16 points and 14 rebounds. Four Catz Lappeenranta players scored in double figures. Point guard Hanna Valkeinen (170-87) responded with 11 points and forward Ida Myllyoja (180-96) scored 5 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Torpan Pojat's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Catz Lappeenranta moved-up to eighth place, which they share with ToPo. Torpan Pojat lost fifth consecutive game. Catz Lappeenranta will play against higher ranked Kouvottaret (#5) in Kouvola in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Torpan Pojat will have a break next round.
