Very expected game in Alcantarilla where 6th ranked Real Canoe (5-4) was defeated by second ranked UCAM Jairis (9-2) 63-48 on Saturday. UCAM Jairis outrebounded Real Canoe 36-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American-Samoan guard Lynn Leaupepe (180-96, college: Cal Poly) who led her team to a victory scoring 13 points and 6 rebounds. Latvian center Marta Miscenko (193-95, college: Wingate) helped adding 10 points and 6 rebounds. Leaupepe is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four UCAM Jairis players scored in double figures. Center Mariana Gonzalez (187-88) responded with 17 points and swingman Macarena Garcia (176-94) scored 6 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for UCAM Jairis. They maintain second place in Group B with 9-2 record having just two points less than leader Ferrol. Loser Real Canoe keeps the sixth position with four games lost. UCAM Jairis will face Leganes (#3) on the road in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Real Canoe will play against Melilla and hope to win that game.
