Very expected game when 16th ranked Brasilia (2-8) was crushed at home by third ranked Sao Paulo (8-1) 104-80 on Saturday. Sao Paulo dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Brasilia's 34. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American point guard Kenny Dawkins (172-87, college: Lamar) stepped up and scored 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF) chipped in 14 points and 4 assists. Four Sao Paulo players scored in double figures. Sao Paulo's coach Claudio Mortari felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Sammy Yeager (193-89, college: CS Fullerton) responded with 17 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Eric Laster (198-93, college: Loyola, MD) scored 14 points and 7 rebounds. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Sao Paulo. They moved-up to second place. Brasilia lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the fourteenth position with eight games lost. Sao Paulo will face Minas (#3) in Belo Horizonte in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Brasilia will play at home against Pato Basquete (#12) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
