Regular Season Round 11: Castello - Picken Claret 71-73

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 10th ranked Castello's (2-5) home loss to ninth ranked Picken Claret (4-6) 71-73 on Saturday. Castello was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Angela Vendrell (187-98, college: UAB) who led her team to a victory scoring 15 points and 8 rebounds. Argentinian point guard Regina Carosio (166-86) helped adding 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Swingman Virginia Saez (173-95) responded with 18 points and Senegalese forward Khadidiatou Diouf (190-96, college: Fairfield) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Castello's coach Jaume Tormo tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Picken Claret moved-up to eighth place in Group B. Newly promoted Castello dropped to the twelfth position with five games lost. Picken Claret will face higher ranked Estepona (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Castello will play against Paterna (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
