Regular Season Round 21: Toyama G. - Kawasaki BT 96-78

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Toshiba Thunders (15-6) against fifth ranked Toyama G. (14-7) on Sunday night. Visiting Toshiba Thunders were defeated by Toyama G. in Toyama 96-78. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Toshiba Thunders. Toyama G. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Toshiba Thunders' 32. They outrebounded Toshiba Thunders 48-23 including a 35-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Toyama G. players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Zimbabwean-American forward Julian Mavunga (203-90, college: Miami, OH, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists. American center Richard Solomon (208-92, college: California, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Toyama G. players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) who recorded 25 points and Spanish Pablo Aguilar (203-89) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Toyama G. moved-up to third place, which they share with Nagoya DD. Defending champion Toshiba Thunders dropped to the second position with six games lost. Toyama G.'s next round opponent will be league's leader Chiba J. on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. Toshiba Thunders will play against Kyoto H. and hope to win that game.
