There was no surprise in Azkoitia where 12th ranked Aviles (3-8) was crushed by fifth ranked Rioja (8-4) 79-57 on Wednesday. Rioja dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Aviles' 24. The best player for the winners was American guard Morgan Green (170-96, college: UC Irvine, agency: Gamble Sports Management) who scored 28 points and 5 rebounds. The other American import guard Crystal Primm (180-97, college: FAU) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. Rioja's coach Luis Aguirre felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was Portuguese swingman Marcy Goncalves (177-90) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and Sara Fraile (-1) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Rioja moved-up to fourth place, which they share with RC Celta. Loser Aviles dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Rioja will face Barakaldo (#6) in Vizcaya in the next round. Aviles will play against Plasencia and hope to win that game.
