Regular Season Round 16: Gernika - Valencia 54-59

An interesting game for Valencia (15-1) which played road game in Gernika against 4th ranked Gernika (10-6). Second ranked Valencia managed to get a 5-point victory 59-54. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Gernika. Worth to mention a great performance of German center Marie Gulich (194-94, college: Oregon St.) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 8 rebounds. International point guard Cristina Ouvina (173-90) contributed with 16 points and 5 assists for the winners. The former international forward Paula Ginzo (187-98) replied with 7 points and 8 rebounds and the former international Belen Arrojo (188-95) added 6 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Gernika. Gernika's coach Mario Lopez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Valencia have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 15-1 record behind leader Avenida. Gernika at the other side keeps the fourth place with six games lost. They share the position with Estudiantes. Valencia are looking forward to face Gran Canaria (#13) in Las Palmas in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gernika will play on the road against Socinsa Bembibre (#15) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
