Regular Season Round 5: Al Shamal - Al Ahli 86-85

The most exciting game of round 5 in the D1 took place in Doha. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Al Ahli (1-3) to fifth ranked Al Shamal (3-1) 86-85 on Saturday evening. Strangely Al Ahli outrebounded Al Shamal 36-24 including 29 on the defensive glass. Lebanese guard Wael Arakji (194-94) saved the victory by scoring 39 points (!!!), 7 rebounds, 9 assists and 5 steals. Georgian Mikhail Berishvili (204-87) contributed with 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American guard Rohndell Goodwin (195-91, college: Chaminade) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and international forward Ndoye Seydou (205) added 24 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Al Ahli. Four Al Ahli players scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Al Wakrah. Al Ahli lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Rayyan.
