Regular Season Round 6: Minas - Sao Paulo 96-92

The biggest surprise took place in Belo Horizonte where host Minas (9-1) beat league's leader Sao Paulo (9-2) 96-92 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Sao Paulo. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Minas made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was Bahamas David Nesbitt (203-91, college: St.Thomas, FL) who scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard David Jackson (190-82, college: Penn St.) chipped in 21 points and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international power forward Lucas Mariano (208-93) who recorded 22 points and 8 rebounds and naturalized American Shamell Stallworth (195-80, college: USF) added 22 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) respectively. Five Minas and four Sao Paulo players scored in double figures. Minas have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Sao Paulo at the other side dropped to the third position with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Flamengo. Sao Paulo will play next round against Fortaleza trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Minas will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Vivo/Franca in Sao Paulo.
