Regular Season Round 10: Villarrobledo - Cornella 73-77

There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Cornella (3-4) defeated on the road 8th ranked Villarrobledo (3-5) 77-73 on Saturday. It was a great shooting night for Cornella especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 56.3 percentage. Villarrobledo was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Center Victor Serrano (211-89) had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and point guard Sergio Guardia (188-88) chipped in 11 points and 4 assists during the contest. At the losing side Ghanian forward Reggie Agbeko (203-92, college: St.Louis) responded with 10 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Joaquin Portugues (185-95) scored 14 points. Four Villarrobledo players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Cornella moved-up to ninth place in Silver. Loser Villarrobledo dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Cornella will face higher ranked Menorca (#3) in Mahon in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Villarrobledo will play on the road against Gran Canaria 2 (#6) in Las Palmas and hope to win that game.
