There was a minor upset when 9th ranked Cortegada (3-9) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Aviles (3-8) 84-78 on Saturday. Aviles had a 27-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 53.6 percentage. The best player for the winners was American forward Devon Brookshire (188-94, college: St.Mary's, CA, agency: DC Sports) who scored 27 points. Angolan-Portuguese Artemis Barbosa (183-93) chipped in 19 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Patricia Vicente (176-98) who recorded 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and guard Sara Gomez (172-86) added 23 points and 4 assists respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Aviles moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Azulejos. Loser Cortegada dropped to the tenth position with nine games lost. Aviles will face higher ranked Plasencia (#3) in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Cortegada will play against the league's second-placed Ardoi (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
