Regular Season Round 12: Empoli - San Martino 59-58

The most exciting game of round 12 in the Serie A1 took place in Empoli. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 8th ranked San Martino (4-7) to seventh ranked Empoli (7-5) 59-58 on Sunday evening. The best player for the winners was American guard Kamiah Smalls (178, college: JMU, agency: LBM Management) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds. The other American import power forward Erin Mathias (193-95, college: Duke) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jolene Anderson (173-86, college: Wisconsin) who recorded 24 points and 9 rebounds and Lithuanian Egle Sulciute (190-85) added 10 points and 5 assists respectively. San Martino's coach Gianluca Abignente rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Empoli moved-up to sixth place. San Martino at the other side keeps the eighth position with seven games lost. Empoli are looking forward to face higher ranked Sesto SG (#5) in Sesto San Giovanni in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
