There was a minor upset in Hamamatsu where their close opponent San-en NeoPhoenix (5-18) was defeated by ninth ranked Niigata A. (7-16) 86-79 on Sunday. Niigata A. outrebounded San-en NeoPhoenix 44-30 including 32 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Hungarian-American Rosco Allen (208-93, college: Stanford, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American-Bulgarian center Jason Washburn (213-90, college: Utah, agency: Pensack Sports) chipped in 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Serbian power forward Stevan Jelovac (208-89, agency: BeoBasket) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and guard Hayato Kawashima (186-90) added 10 points, 8 assists and 4 steals respectively for the hosts. Four San-en NeoPhoenix players scored in double figures. Niigata A. moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Kyoto H. and Yokohama BC. Loser San-en NeoPhoenix keeps the ninth position with 18 games lost. Niigata A. will face higher ranked Shinshu BW (#6) in Nagano in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. San-en NeoPhoenix will play on the road against Akita Happinets and hope to win that game.
