No shocking result in a game when second ranked Minas (11-1) beat 13th ranked Pinheiros (4-8) in Sao Paulo 84-76 on Monday. Minas made 23-of-24 free shots (95.8 percent) during the game. Minas outrebounded Pinheiros 42-29 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pinheiros was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for the former international point guard David Rossetto (184-92) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his eight free throws). American guard Shaquille Johnson (194-90, college: Marshall) contributed with 15 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Minas players scored in double figures. Point guard Gabriel Campos (179-1) answered with 22 points and 4 assists and the former international guard Humberto Silva (196-95) added 15 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Pinheiros. Pinheiros' coach David Pelosini rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Minas. They maintain second place with 11-1 record behind leader Flamengo. Loser Pinheiros dropped to the eleventh position with eight games lost. Minas will have a break next round. Pinheiros will play on the road against Mogi (#10) in Mogi das Cruzes and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
