Regular Season Round 2: Lioneers - Fubon Braves 87-96

Very significant was Fubon Braves' 96-87 victory against Lioneers. Fubon Braves dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Lioneers' 36. They outrebounded Lioneers 55-43 including a 43-31 advantage in defensive rebounds. Fubon Braves brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Lioneers were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Costa Rican-Belizean forward Charles Garcia (208-88, college: Seattle) notched a double-double by scoring 28 points and 16 rebounds to lead the effort and Ukrainian power forward Igor Zaytsev (210-89) supported him with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Even 23 points and 6 rebounds by American forward LaDontae Henton (198-92, college: Providence) did not help to save the game for Lioneers. His fellow American import power forward Julian Wright (203-87, college: Kansas, agency: Alti Sport) added 12 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals for Fubon Braves. Four Lioneers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Fubon Braves will play against Pilots in Taoyuan in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Lioneers will play again on the road against Fubon Braves in Taipei and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
