The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Panathinaikos as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Panathinaikos smashed 5th ranked Iraklis in Athens 106-74. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Iraklis was better in second period 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 18-of-21 charity shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Panathinaikos outrebounded Iraklis 39-21 including a 28-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 56.0 percentage. Panathinaikos players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. It was a good game for international center Georgios Papagiannis (220-97) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). American point guard Shelvin Mack (191-90, college: Butler) contributed with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Four Panathinaikos players scored in double figures. American swingman Scott Suggs (197-89, college: Washington) answered with 18 points and Canadian guard Olivier Hanlan (193-93, college: Boston Coll., agency: Wasserman) added 13 points in the effort for Iraklis. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Panathinaikos. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Iraklis lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with PAOK. Iraklis will play next round against Larissa BC trying to get back on the winning streak. Panathinaikos will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Lavrio on the road.
