Regular Season Round 18: Kauhajoki - Vilpas 76-86

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Kauhajoki (8-4) against fourth ranked Vilpas (8-4) on Wednesday night. Host Kauhajoki was defeated by Vilpas in Kauhajoki 86-76. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Kauhajoki. It looked good early as Kauhajoki took a 4-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Vilpas had a 22-16 second period charge getting the lead and Kauhajoki was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 76-86. Vilpas dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Kauhajoki's 30. Vilpas had a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. International Mikko Koivisto (194-87, college: UNCG, agency: Blacktop Management) scored 23 points and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and American power forward Jeremiah Wood (200-85, agency: Inception Sports) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Vilpas' coach Sami Toiviainen allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was point guard Kiur-Thomas Vehmanen (180-0) with 26 points and 5 assists and guard Antti Niskanen (188-86) scored 13 points and 5 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vilpas have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Kauhajoki. Vilpas will play against Nokia (#6) at home in the next round. Kauhajoki will have a break next round.
