There was a minor upset when higher ranked Varese (2-3) was edged at home by eleventh ranked Fiorenzuola (2-3) 69-66 on Wednesday. Strangely Varese outrebounded Fiorenzuola 49-32 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was naturalized British swingman Luca Fowler (193-96) who scored 21 points. Guard Umberto Livelli (180-99, agency: SLN) chipped in 15 points. Guard Andrea Calzavara (186-1) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists and forward Nikola Ivanaj (197-0) added 15 points respectively for the hosts. Fiorenzuola moved-up to ninth place in B, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Varese. Fiorenzuola will face Pavia (#13) on the road in the next round.
