Very predictable result in Azkoitia where fifth ranked Rioja (11-4) smashed 14th ranked Genero (1-12) 88-57 on Saturday. They outrebounded Genero 46-31 including 35 on the defensive glass. American guard Morgan Green (170-96, college: UC Irvine, agency: Gamble Sports Management) had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Cameroonian forward Marguerite Effa (190-97, college: Nevada) chipped in 25 points and 5 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Rioja players scored in double figures. Guard Regina Gomez (173-82) responded with 20 points and 5 rebounds and Mali Maimouna Haidara (181-4) scored 7 points and 7 rebounds. Genero's coach Aday Villalba already knew that her team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Rioja have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in Group A, which they share with RC Celta and Plasencia. Genero lost ninth consecutive game. They keep the fourteenth position with 12 games lost. Rioja will face Aviles (#10) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Genero will play against Barakaldo (#6) and hope to win that game.
