Regular Season Round 16: SDUSHOR - Grodno GrSU 40-83

Bottom-ranked SDUSHOR (0-14) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 83-40 loss to sixth ranked Grodno GrSU (7-7) in Minsk on Saturday evening. The game without a history. Grodno GrSU led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They held SDUSHOR to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Grodno GrSU forced 29 SDUSHOR turnovers and outrebounded them 53-32 including a 31-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by SDUSHOR's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Grodno GrSU made 8 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of center Pavel Bliznec (211-94) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 17 points, 16 rebounds and 4 blocks and point guard Anton Gaidel (188-3) who added 17 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals during the contest. Five Grodno GrSU players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Rostislav Makavchik (197-2) responded with 10 points and 6 rebounds and swingman Vladislav Pakhomov (190-5) scored 8 points and 4 steals. SDUSHOR's coach Eduard Kemen gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Grodno GrSU maintains sixth position with 7-7 record. Loser SDUSHOR still closes the standings with 14 games lost. Grodno GrSU will meet at home higher ranked Rubon (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. SDUSHOR's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Minsk to the arena Impuls BGUIR Minsk.
