Regular Season Round 16: Sassari - Ragusa 54-88

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Ragusa (12-2) crushed on the road 11th ranked Sassari (3-11) 88-54 on Saturday. Ragusa dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Sassari's 20. They outrebounded Sassari 41-26 including 29 on the defensive glass. Ragusa shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Sassari's players. It was a very good performance for international guard Nicole Romeo (167-89, college: Washington) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 7 assists. Guard Mariella Santucci (170-97, college: Toledo) contributed with 10 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Five Ragusa players scored in double figures. Ragusa's coach Gianni Recupido felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Kennedy Burke (185-97, college: UCLA, agency: Wasserman) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of her seven free throws) and her fellow American import guard Sierra Calhoun (183-96, college: Rutgers, agency: Wasserman) added 9 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Sassari. Ragusa have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 12-2 record. Newly promoted Sassari keeps the eleventh place with 11 games lost. Ragusa will face Lucca (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sassari will play against Bologna and hope to win that game.
