Regular Season Round 6: Fjolnir - KR 75-68

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Reykjavik: Fjolnir (#4) and KR (#8). Fjolnir (4-2) won against visiting KR (0-5) 75-68. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But KR won third quarter 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Fjolnir looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Ariel Hearn (171-94, college: Memphis) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 15 rebounds and 6 assists. Lithuanian power forward Lina Pikciute (192-90) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Four Fjolnir players scored in double figures. Fjolnir's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American point guard Taryn McCutcheon (165, college: Michigan St., agency: LBM Management) replied with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists and Finnish forward Annika Holopainen (185-93, college: ODU) added 21 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for KR. Fjolnir moved-up to second place. KR at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Fjolnir are looking forward to face Skallagrimur (#4) in Borganes in the next round. KR will play at home against Haukar (#5) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
