Very expected game when 12th ranked Sassari (3-12) was crushed on the road by third ranked Bologna (14-3) 86-65 on Saturday. Bologna dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Sassari's 26. They outrebounded Sassari 46-28 including 33 on the defensive glass. Bologna looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Sassari's players. Australian center Abby Bishop (189-88) stepped up and scored 23 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and Croatian forward Ana-Marija Begic (191-94) chipped in 18 points and 11 rebounds. Coach Lorenzo Serventi's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Kennedy Burke (185-97, college: UCLA, agency: Wasserman) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import guard Sierra Calhoun (183-96, college: Rutgers, agency: Wasserman) scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. Bologna maintains third place with 14-3 record having just three points less than leader Venezia. Sassari lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth position with 12 games lost. Bologna will face San Martino (#7) in San Martino di L in the next round.
