There was a surprise result when twelfth ranked AWFiS Gdynia (2-12) edged at home higher ranked Ogniwo Szcz. (7-8) 74-71 on Saturday. AWFiS Gdynia forced 26 Ogniwo Szcz. turnovers. Strangely Ogniwo Szcz. outrebounded AWFiS Gdynia 33-20 including 25 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was swingman Maciej Dalak (189-95) who scored 19 points, 5 assists and 4 steals. Rafal Komenda (200-98, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 9 points and 9 rebounds. Center Karol Pytys (202-85) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and guard Michal Huk (188-1) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted AWFiS Gdynia maintains twelfth place with 2-12 record. Loser Ogniwo Szcz. keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. AWFiS Gdynia will face higher ranked AZS UMK (#9) in Torun in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
