Regular Season Round 22: Gran Canaria - Al-Qazeres 70-64

Rather expected game when 15th ranked Al-Qazeres (3-16) lost to thirteenth ranked Gran Canaria (6-15) in Las Palmas 64-70 on Saturday. Gran Canaria dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Al-Qazeres' 28 and made 19-of-20 free shots (95.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Al-Qazeres 45-32 including 33 on the defensive glass. It was a very good performance for Mali power forward Sika Kone (190-2) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 17 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). American center Kai James (196-95, college: FSU) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Four Gran Canaria players scored in double figures. Cypriot-Greek swingman Eleanna Christinaki (183-96, college: Maryland) replied with 13 points and 4 assists and Argentinian power forward Victoria Llorente (180-96) added 11 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Al-Qazeres. Newly promoted Gran Canaria maintains thirteenth position with 6-15 record. Al-Qazeres lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifteenth place with 16 games lost. Gran Canaria are looking forward to face higher ranked Araski (#10) in Vitoria-Gasteiz in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Al-Qazeres will play at home against Zaragoza (#12) and is hoping to prove to their fans that they can break losing series.
