Regular Season Round 6: Thor AK - KR 88-92

Bottom-ranked Thor AK (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 92-88 loss to sixth ranked KR (3-2) in Akureyri on Monday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Thor AK won third quarter 29-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when KR won last quarter 28-26. Strangely Thor AK outrebounded KR 43-22 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American guard Ty Sabin (190-94, college: Ripon, agency: Duran International) scored 32 points and 8 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international point guard Matthias Sigurdarson (183-94, college: Columbus St.) chipped in 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. KR's coach Darri Atlason used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Spanish forward Ivan Aurrecoechea (203-95, college: NM State) with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 19 rebounds and Hungarian-Serbian Srdjan Stojanovic (197-91) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Four Thor AK players scored in double figures. KR have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Thor AK still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Hottur. KR will meet at home Thor Thorl (#4) in the next round. Thor AK will play against Tindastoll (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
