Regular Season Round 6: Kibirkstis - Nika 57-65

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Vilnius where one of their biggest challengers Lithuanian Kibirkstis (2-2) were defeated by fifth ranked Russian Nika (3-2) 65-57 on Tuesday. Kibirkstis trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 19-12 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 57-65 at the end of the game. Maria Cherepanova (190-87) had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and forward Victoria Cheren (187-98) chipped in 8 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Nika's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American-Mexican forward Jacqueline Luna-Castro (188-93, college: Charleston) with 14 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Gabriele Sulske (175-90) scored 9 points and 5 assists. Nika moved-up to fourth place. Defending Lithuanian champion Kibirkstis dropped to the fifth position with two games lost. Nika will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Kibirkstis will play on the road against the league's leader TTT Riga (#1) and are hoping to win this game.
