Regular Season Round 17: Segle XXI - Maresme 47-51

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Barcelona: Maresme (#3) and Segle XXI (#8). Segle XXI was defeated at home 47-51 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Forward Mireia Vila (183-91, college: St.Joseph's) stepped up and scored 9 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and guard Blanca Garcia (183-89) chipped in 9 points. Gisela Sanchez (191-3) responded with 9 points and 9 rebounds and point guard Elena Buenavida (174-4) scored 10 points and 7 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Maresme have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain third place with 13-5 record having five points less than leader Barca CBS, which they share with Rioja. Segle XXI at the other side keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. Maresme is looking forward to face Almeda (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Segle XXI will play against Azulejos and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
