The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Gijon Basket as it allowed them to take a leadership position in Group A-C. Gijon Basket defeated 6th ranked Leon at home 94-83. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Leon. Gijon Basket made 24-of-25 charity shots (96.0 percent) during the game. Guard Jose Antonio Lopez (190-96) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!). Swingman Carlos Suarez (186-99) contributed with 20 points for the winners. Javier Cal (191-96) replied with 11 points and 8 rebounds and Senegalese power forward Pape Seck (207-92, college: Simon Fraser) added 19 points in the effort for Leon. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gijon Basket (6-0) have an impressive six-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Leon at the other side keeps the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with PBB. Leon will play next round against Costa Artraba trying to get back on the winning streak. Gijon Basket will try to continue on its current victory against tenth ranked Estudiantes L. at Lugo.
