Regular Season Round 13: Larissa BC - AEK 76-75

Important game to mention about took place in Larissa. Eleventh ranked Larissa BC (4-9) saved a 1-point victory at home edging much higher ranked AEK (10-4) 76-75 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of AEK. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But AEK won third quarter 17-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Larissa BC shot the lights out from three nailing 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. American point guard Jerry Smith (189-87, college: Louisville) stepped up and scored 30 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import James Webb III (206-93, college: Boise St.) chipped in 19 points and 8 rebounds. Larissa BC's coach Nikos Papanikolopoulos allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the losing side American Keith Langford (193-83, college: Kansas) responded with 19 points and 5 assists and international Linos-Spyridon Chrysikopoulos (206-92) scored 16 points. Four AEK players scored in double figures. Larissa BC moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Ionikos Nikaias and Charilaos. AEK at the other side keeps the second position with four games lost. Larissa BC will play against higher ranked Promitheas (#4) in Patras in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. AEK's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Athens Peristeri GS.
