An interesting game took place in Akureyri where 8th ranked Valur (3-4) was upset on the court of eleventh ranked Thor AK (2-5) 98-89 on Sunday. Valur trailed by 15 points after 3 quarters before a 27-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 89-98 at the end of the game. Thor AK made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Thor AK outrebounded Valur 43-28 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Spanish forward Ivan Aurrecoechea (203-95, college: NM State) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds and American point guard Dedrick Basile (178-94, college: CSUB) who added 28 points, 8 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Portuguese point guard Miguel Cardoso (188-93) responded with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Slovenian forward Sinisa Bilic (202-89, agency: 011 Sports) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Four Thor AK and five Valur players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Thor AK moved-up to tenth place. Loser Valur keeps the eighth position with four games lost. Thor AK will face bottom-ranked Hottur (#12) in Egilsstadir in the next round.
