Very expected game when bottom-ranked Goierri (0-9) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Solares (4-4) 93-81 on Sunday. Solares outrebounded Goierri 49-26 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The best player for the winners was American-British center Kaj-Bjorn Sherman (213-92, college: UTSA) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 18 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Sergio Garcia (195-95) chipped in 15 points and 9 rebounds. Solares' coach Asier Gordo used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jon Ander Apaolaza (196-91) produced 32 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and point guard Jon Telmo Igartua (181-97) added 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the guests. Solares moved-up to fifth place in Group A-A. Loser Goierri still closes the standings with nine games lost. Solares will face higher ranked LBC Cocinas (#4) in Logrono in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Goierri will play on the road against Ardoi (#3) in Zizur Mayor and hopes to get finally their first victory.
