Regular Season Round 23: Seagulls - Nokia 83-72

Korisliiga top team - Seagulls (15-1) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat fifth ranked Nokia (9-6) in Helsinki 83-72. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Nokia. It looked good early as Nokia took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Seagulls had a 29-13 second period charge getting the lead and Nokia was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-83. Seagulls players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. It was a quality performance for American guard Kendale McCullum (194-96, college: Lewis, agency: Octagon Europe) who led the winners with a triple-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). International Shawn Huff (198-84, college: Valpo) accounted for 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Seagulls' coach Jussi Laakso allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Forward Lauri Toivonen (200-91, college: UTRGV) came up with 6 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and American guard Daeshon Francis (193-96, college: UTPB) added 13 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Nokia in the defeat. Four Nokia players scored in double figures. Seagulls maintains first place with 15-1 record. Nokia at the other side keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Seagulls will play against league's second-placed Pyrinto in Tampere in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Nokia will play at home against KTP Basket and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
