Fifth-ranked Rubon (11-8) used its home court advantage to challenge second ranked Tsmoki-Minsk (18-1) in Vitebsk on Saturday. The visitors from Minsk managed to secure only one-point victory 74-73. However their fans expected easier game. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 20-15. But Rubon won second period 21-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Tsmoki-Minsk forced 20 Rubon turnovers and outrebounded them 45-34 including 31 on the defensive glass. 24 personal fouls committed by Rubon helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for Timofey Porolev (208-97) who saved his team from a defeat with 14 points. International point guard Andrey Staborovskij (185-97) contributed with 12 points and 5 assists for the winners. Tsmoki-Minsk's coach Rostislav Vergun used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. The former international forward Victor Ovsepyan (202-91) answered with 17 points and 9 rebounds and Russian forward Marsel Ovsepyan (202-90) added 13 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Rubon. Tsmoki-Minsk have an impressive series of fifteen victories in a row. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Grodno. Rubon at the other side keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Tsmoki-Minsk is looking forward to face Borisfen (#3) in Mogilev in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Rubon will play on the road against Gomel and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
