Regular Season Round 18: Maresme - Almeda 39-49

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Maresme (13-6) against eleventh ranked Almeda (6-13) on Saturday night. Host Maresme was defeated by Almeda in Barcelona 49-39. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Maresme. Almeda held Maresme to an opponent 20.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.4 percent accuracy of the winners. Almeda had a 37-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for power forward Claudia Baraut (182-94) who led her team to a victory with 9 points and 7 rebounds. Laia Marti (-1) contributed with 8 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Forward Mireia Vila (183-91, college: St.Joseph's) replied with 8 points and 7 rebounds and Laura Salmeron added 7 points in the effort for Maresme. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Almeda moved-up to tenth place in Group C. Maresme at the other side dropped to the fourth position with six games lost. Almeda will play against higher ranked Segle XXI (#7) in Barcelona in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Maresme will play on the road against Girona and hopes to get back on the winning track.
