Regular Season Round 18: San Giovanni - Faenza 85-78

The most important game in the last round took place in Valdarno between second ranked Faenza (12-2) and sixth ranked San Giovanni (10-4) on Wednesday night. Faenza was defeated by San Giovanni in a tough game on the road 78-85. San Giovanni outrebounded Faenza 54-43 including 16 on the offensive glass. 31 personal fouls committed by Faenza helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Lucia Missanelli (178-98) scored 17 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and power forward Liliana Miccio (181-89) chipped in 21 points during the contest. Four San Giovanni players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Lucia Morsiani (186-92) with 23 points and 9 rebounds and Latvian power forward Liga Vente (190-91, college: Eckerd) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Faenza's coach Paolo Rossi rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. San Giovanni moved-up to fourth place in A2. Faenza at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. San Giovanni are looking forward to face Patti (#8) at home in the next round. Faenza will play against Bolzano AV (#12) and is hoping to win this game.
