Regular Season Round 11: Varese - Cremona 64-57

There was an upset when higher ranked Cremona (6-5) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Varese (5-6) 64-57 on Saturday. Varese made 18-of-20 free shots (90.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Marco Allegretti (204-81) who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Matteo Maruca (185-97) chipped in 15 points. Swingman Jacopo Mercante (197-90) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and Marco Bona (189-89) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Varese moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 10 other teams. Loser Cremona keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Varese will face Fiorenzuola (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Cremona will play against Olginate (#9) and hope to win that game.
