Regular Season Round 25: Estudiantes - Gernika 53-64

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Gernika (15-8) beat 4th placed ASEFA Estudiantes (14-8) in Madrid 64-53. It was a great shooting night for Gernika especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 53.3 percentage. American swingman Angie Bjorklund (183-89, college: Tennessee) stepped up and scored 16 points for the winners and Serbian swingman Milica Ivanovic (180-88, college: Catawba) chipped in 17 points. At the losing side American guard Arica Carter (173-96, college: Louisville) responded with 18 points and Argentinian point guard Melisa Gretter (166-93) scored 5 points and 8 rebounds. ASEFA Estudiantes' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Gernika. They moved-up to fourth place. Newly promoted ASEFA Estudiantes dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Gernika will play against IDK Eustotren (#7) in San Sebastian in the next round. ASEFA Estudiantes will play at home against the league's leader Perfumerias Avenida and hopes to get back on the winning track.
