Regular Season Round 17: Gorizont - Olimpia 76-49

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Gorizont as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Gorizont smashed 3rd placed Olimpia in Minsk 76-49. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Olimpia. The game was mostly controlled by Gorizont. Olimpia managed to win fourth quarter 14-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gorizont forced 19 Olimpia turnovers and had a 31-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The former international center Anastasiya Veremeenko (194-87) stepped up and scored 13 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and the former international center Viktoryia Hasper (192-88) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Yana Goliakova (183-1) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds and international point guard Yuliya Vasilevich (165-1) scored 4 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gorizont have a solid series of three victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Tsmoki-Minsk. Olimpia at the other side keeps the third place with five games lost. Olimpia will play next round against strong BDU Tsmoki trying to get back on the winning streak. Gorizont will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Gomel on the road.
