Regular Season Round 18: Gomel - Gorizont 41-98

Leader Gorizont delivered the seventeenth victory. This time they crushed 8th ranked Gomel (1-17) 98-41. The game without a history. Gorizont led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Gomel to just 6 points in fourth quarter. Gorizont held Gomel to an opponent 23.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 47.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Gorizont forced 21 Gomel turnovers and outrebounded them 57-27 including a 19-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Gomel's players. It was a good game for the former international center Anastasiya Veremeenko (194-87) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 21 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Maryna Rakauskaya-Minkevich (173-92) replied with 24 points and 6 steals and point guard Ilona Katsyro (170-5) added 8 points in the effort for Gomel. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gorizont have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 17-1 record, which they share with Tsmoki-Minsk. Gomel lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 17 lost games. Gorizont will play against Victoria (#6) in Grodno in the next round where they are favorite.
