Everything went according to plan when third ranked Sassari (13-5) defeated at home 5th ranked Venezia (12-7) 96-88. Sassari shot 64.8 percent from the field and made 20-of-25 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Sassari outrebounded Venezia 32-21 including a 26-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. Venezia was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Jason Burnell (201-97, college: JSU) who helped to win the game recording 16 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Croatian center Miro Bilan (213-89, agency: BeoBasket) who added 18 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Five Sassari players scored in double figures. The former international Stefano Tonut (194-93) responded with 24 points and 4 steals and American point guard Wes Clark (183-94, college: Buffalo) scored 13 points and 7 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sassari have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Brindisi. Venezia at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Sassari will play against bottom-ranked Varese (#15) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Venezia will play against Virtus BO (#4) in Bologna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
