Regular Season Round 13: Varese - Vigevano 59-76

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Varese (5-8) was defeated at home by second ranked Vigevano (9-4) 76-59 on Saturday. Vigevano dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Varese's 24. They outrebounded Varese 40-29 including 28 on the defensive glass. Mario Bevilacqua (199-96) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 15 rebounds for the winners and power forward Gianluca Giorgi (200-95) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four Vigevano players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international forward Marco Allegretti (204-81) responded with 18 points and 7 rebounds and Alessandro Corno (192-92) scored 10 points. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Vigevano keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Varese dropped to the fifth place with eight games lost. Vigevano will face Cremona (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Varese will play against Pavia and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
