Regular Season Round 21: Real Canoe - Paterna 72-78

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Madrid where 7th ranked Real Canoe (10-8) was defeated by eighth ranked Paterna (10-8) 78-72 on Saturday. Paterna made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Real Canoe turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Nadia Fingall (191, college: Stanford) who scored 20 points and 6 rebounds. Claudia Contell (-3) chipped in 22 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). At the other side the best for losing team was center Mariana Gonzalez (187-88) who recorded 26 points and swingman Macarena Garcia (176-94) added 15 points respectively. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Paterna. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with defeated Real Canoe. Paterna will face league's leader Leganes at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
