Very expected game when 13th ranked Battipaglia (2-16) was rolled over at home by sixth ranked Empoli (12-8) 91-63 on Sunday. Empoli outrebounded Battipaglia 46-30 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Battipaglia's players. The best player for the winners was American power forward Erin Mathias (193-95, college: Duke) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Her fellow American import guard Kamiah Smalls (178, college: JMU, agency: LBM Management) chipped in 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Empoli players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American Danielle McCray (186-87, college: Kansas) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Giulia Moroni (171-94) added 9 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Empoli have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 12-8 record. Battipaglia at the other side keeps the thirteenth position with 16 games lost. Empoli are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Vigarano (#14) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
