Regular Season Round 12: Grindavik - Valur 97-85
Date: March 1, 2021
There was no surprise when 9th ranked Valur (4-7) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Grindavik (6-5) 97-85 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Grindavik. Valur managed to win third quarter 21-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Grindavik looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Belgian-Australian guard Marshall Nelson (188-94, college: WBU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists and Estonian forward Joonas Jarvelainen (201-90) who added 22 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American guard Jordan Roland (185-97, college: Northeastern) with 27 points and 9 assists and Portuguese point guard Miguel Cardoso (188-93) scored 12 points and 6 assists. Five Grindavik and four Valur players scored in double figures. Valur's coach Finnur Stefansson rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Grindavik moved-up to fifth place. Loser Valur keeps the ninth position with seven games lost. Grindavik will meet at home Hottur (#11) in the next round where they are favorite. Valur will play against Stjarnan and hope to secure a win.
