Regular Season Round 29: Kauhajoki - Kouvot 99-80

Very expected game when 10th ranked Kouvot (5-16) was crushed on the road by third ranked Kauhajoki (16-5) 99-80 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Kauhajoki. Kouvot was better in second period 20-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Kauhajoki looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. American TJ Holyfield (203-95, college: Texas Tech) stepped up and scored 24 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Collin Malcolm (200-97, college: WPU) chipped in 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Malcolm is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Kauhajoki's coach Janne Koskimies used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Point guard Severi Kaukiainen (185-98) responded with 23 points and 8 assists and guard Ilmari Toikkanen (207-96) scored 13 points and 9 rebounds. Five Kauhajoki and four Kouvot players scored in double figures. Kauhajoki maintains third place with 16-5 record having four points less than leader Seagulls. Kouvot lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 16 games lost. Kauhajoki will face Ura Basket (#11) in Kaarina in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Kouvot will play at home against Nokia and hope to win that game.
